A snow storm is likely to drop up to two feet of snow in portions of the Tri-State Region by Saturday evening.
High winds are also in the forecast.
Salt and snow shovels are must-have items for dealing with the storm. Any outdoor furniture or property should be tied down or brought inside.
Shopping for salt to dissolve all the snow? Check out the details below on a variety of ice melters:
Least expensive:
Sodium chloride: about $6/bag; apply it with sand before the snow hits. can do damage to concrete and metal
Pet friendly:
'Blizzard Wizard' brand; great for pets; animals' paws are safe to walk on this type of salt
Most expensive:
Calcium chloride; $17/bag; will not damage sidewalks; does more for less; can react to any temperature up to 20 degrees fahrenheit
For the environmentally conscious:
Magnesium chloride: won't damage flowers or plant vegetation; will react to snow and ice up to 20 degrees fahrenheit
