MY9TV.COM - All afternoon, any greeting between strangers went from hello to "did you feel it?"
The unusual sensation had everyone talking.
Brenda Flanagan reports.

Did you feel it? I sure did sitting at my desk. I felt the floor move back and forth, and thought, what's that? Then the floor did another move. Ah-ha! Earthquake.

Out on the sidewalk people saw high-rise buildings wave gently back and forthas the earth moved under their feet.

One person tells us, "II was by the newstand and I felt my feet shimmying back and forth. It lasted maybe 40 seconds."

Up on the 16th floor it felt rougher.

Corey Brown headed for the stairs like everyone else at 33 Washington Street an 18-story office building in Newark. The feeling now -- FEAR.

Brown tells us, "Sorry to say, but everyone thought the worst: 9/11. They saw and felt the building shaking."

Meanwhile safety and maintenance workers rushed to scan concrete walls looking for cracks.

In Newark I'm Brenda Flanagan, The 10 O'Clock News.
