MY9TV.COM - Consignment shopping is becoming a growing trend.
Not only can you save money buying items on consignment.
You can also cash-in by selling your unwanted stuff.
Brenda Flanagan explains.

Sue Novak just brought in a couple items to sell at a consignment shop called, "Then and Now." The shopowner sets a price and puts them up for sale alongside all kinds of second-hand merchandise. When they sell the shop keeps 40 percent and Sue gets the rest!

sHE TELLS US, "it keeps me an at-home mom because I dont have to work in an office because the money I make can go towards bills and to help my husband."

Curb-surfers dream of finding hidden treasure and hitting the jackpot! Hey it happens! One guy told u about his money-making story.  He said, "Last summe I bought a $1 vase and a $10 painting. The $1 vase turned out to be worth $800, the $10 painting sold for $55K."

But many people just bring in their own stuff like that extra set of dishes, unwanted gifts or clothes their kids have outgrown, items they used to throw out or give away. Not anymore...

One consigner tells us, "We've all got old stuff sitting in our houses thats not new old and is in good shape so why not try to sell it for some money? Why just put it out on the curb for garbage"

Every consignment shop's got its own style. "Dolphin Cove" sells mens, kids and ladies clothing. "Second Glance" specializes in upscale designer outfits and accessories.  The best thing about consignment shops is after you make money selling stuff you can take that cash, go shopping and save even more!

Kelly Scherner combs the racks at Second Glance and she's found some jaw-dropping bargains! She said, "I wore 5-inch heels by  Nine West I paid $24 for.  I have designer jeans I usually pay $20-$25 for instead of $200-$25."

Shop owner Shirley Innis says many items here have neverbeen worn and still have tags! Everything she sells is in pristine condition.  Her commitment, "We look for stains, we look for holes, because anything that comes in has to be in perfect condition"

And she charges only 1/3 of the original price, or less.  And nobody has to know. If items don't sell some shops just return them, others donate them to charity. I'm Brenda Flanagan, The 10 O'Clock News.
