Billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson said he might donate an additional $100 million to a super PAC backing Newt Gingrich's presidential bid, Forbes magazine reported Tuesday.

FOX News Channel reported last week that Adelson had donated another $10 million to the pro-Gingrich "Winning our Future" super PAC, on top of the $11 million the Adelson family had already donated to the group.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Adelson told two friends last week that he was concerned about Rick Santorum's surge in the polls, saying he was not convinced the former Pennsylvania senator could beat President Barack Obama in a general election. The Journal said he told his friends that he was willing to continue donating to Gingrich, even if it would only keep the former House speaker's campaign alive through Super Tuesday, March 6, and stop Santorum's ascent.

Gingrich has touted Super Tuesday, when 10 states will go to the polls, as his next chance to pull off a primary victory.

The Journal noted that Adelson is determined to unseat Obama because he believes the president's policies toward Israel pose a threat to the Jewish state.

The businessman -- who has a net worth of roughly $25 billion, according to Forbes -- said he would not be stopped by critics who claim he is trying to buy the election and may donate even more money.

"Those people are either jealous or professional critics," he told Forbes. "They like to trash other people. It's unfair that I've been treated unfair -- but it doesn't stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich."

He added, "I'm against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections, but as long as it's doable, I'm going to do it." Read more: Forbes
