Heavy rains were soaking New Jersey on Sunday, spurring minor to moderate flooding in many areas and causing travel delays for drivers and airline passengers.
Most areas had seen 1 to 2 inches of rain by early afternoon, while more than 3 inches had fallen in the Newark area. And forecasters warned that the showers and thunderstorms would likely continue until at least early Monday, meaning the morning commute could be a sloppy one.
The rains spurred flooding that forced the closure of some major roadways on Sunday, and drivers were being urged to allow extra time.
Meanwhile, delays of up to 90 minutes were being reported for arriving flights at Newark Liberty Airport, and even longer arrival delays were occurring at LaGuardia and Kennedy airports in New York.
