It's a waiting game for New Jersey residents as Hurricane Earl moves up the East Coast.
The National Weather Service says a tropical storm warning is still in effect for the state's coast, with the worst expected on Friday.
The hurricane is packing sustained winds of 140 mph with some gusts even higher, and has prompted a hurricane warning for the southern Massachusetts coast.
Hurricane conditions aren't expected in New Jersey, but the storm is expected to cause rough surf, dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding.
Swimming and surfing restrictions are in place at some beaches. State officials have said swimmers and surfers are prohibited from going into the water at Island Beach State Park on Thursday and Friday.
