MY9TV.com - Now, a story about giving back.
New Yorkers going all over the nation to say "thank you" for the outpouring of help we received ten years ago.
Brenda Flanagan reports.
"When the firefighters, when i found out they were coming and just seeing them, i got the chills."
Not just firefighters, but 9-11 first responders, Ground Zero workers, 9-11 family members and New York City school kids.
They all came to an Indiana cornfield to rebuild a century-old church destroyed by a tornado.
Indiana resident says: "How would anybody figure out that we needed help?"
But they did. 2-thousand volunteers, members of "new york says thank you".
Jeff Parness says: "I think this is the most inspiring story to come out of 9-11."
Jeff Parness organized "New York Says Thank You" in the wake of the attack on the Twin Towers.
Volunteers travel to other states hit by disasters each year on the weekend of the 9-11 anniversary, to thank America for coming to New York's aid on 9-11.
Pastor Mike Shleton of the Baker Chapel, DeGonia, Indiana, says: "In the middle of a cornfield a young man from new york stood by a young man from san diego who stood by a young man from louisiana who stood by a young lady from Chicago. And they were all taking directions from an Amish man on a lift"
The yearly projects of "New York Says Thank You" are now documented in a film that took six years to produce.
It airs Saturday night from 8 to 10 here on My-9.
But Parness says it's not about September 11th.
"Our film is about 9-12. People coming together to help each other and how 10 years later the forward stream is still continuing."
Indiana resident says: "They are taking what has been destroyed in our lives and given us a little bit of hope."
