Empty Sky Memorial Tour

"The first thing you want to do is touch the names.I think that was one of our main goals. We worked quite a while with the refletivity of the stainless steel. It's a reflection where you catch just a shaddow of yourself and see the names clearly at the same time. so in some ways, it's a conenction between the living and the dead."

As it gets darker, the names start to look as if they are haloing off the stainless steel. it's incredible
"Jessica, when I first saw the memorial, the first thing I thought was I can't go in, because it makes me so sad to see all these names." "Yeah. on September 11th 2001 we lost over 3000 people.  746 came from the State of New Jersey."
"Jessica, how did you come up with the name, "Empty Sky"? "Liberty State Park is the place where rescue workers evacuees came after 9-11. from ground zero, and this memorial symbolically illustrates those two walls back in the skyline of Manhattan, so it's the empty sky that we reflect upon."
And of course, it was a Bruce Springsteen song that inspired the phrase "empty sky"
"To anyone in New Jersey, Bruce Springsteen is a huge New Jersey hero. I'm not sure that's why this piece was titlted that but it does bring it together.
"It is the empty sky. anywhere that you are if you are in Brooklyn, if you are in Manhattan, people remember those towers and now they are missing, and so poetically, this memorial connecting New Jersey to Lower Manhattan and Ground Zero is entitlted Empty Sky as it tries to replace that into the sky."
