MY9TV.COM - Make sure your beauty routine doesn't get beat by the summer heat.
We all love the sun, surf and sand, but the elements are tought on our hair and skin.
Here's Brenda Flanagan with tips to nix the summer beauty snafus.
Frizzy hair or leathery legs getting you down? Summer's sun, heat and humidity can fry, dry and mummify your body! Dial beauty 9-1-1: out expert Rebekah George has tips for staying smooth and cool when summer turns on the blow torch! Let's talk about hair!!
Rebekah says, "We all deal with bigger hair issues this time of year and the reason is there's more smoke, there's more smog, there's more pollution. It can really cause our hair to get greasy and just fall flat"
Rescue that hot mess with a volumizing refresher or spray shampoo.
Rebekah says its easy, "You're going to just section off your hair and spray it underneath in sections. This is going to help to instantly get rid of any oilyness and also refresh your hair and add that volume back in."
But if humidity makes your hair explode like a frizz-bomb try this tip from Rebekah, "You wanna start with a product that's silicone based. like the cult favorite, from John Frieda. It's their frizz-ease hair serum. You wanna just take a little bit, rub your hands together, and then literally just work it through your hair and it's going to help to get rid of that excess frizz."
Does summer heat melt your makeup like grilled cheese....?
Rebekah has a tip for that too, "This time of year you wanna look for makeup products with long wear formulas and long wear colors so they don't slip and slide right off your face."
Here's the cure: Use a primer first -- to help makeup stay put. And translucent pressed powder locks in color.
Try waterproof mascara -- it won't melt! Finally -- finish with a sweet lip stain.
Rebekah says, "It almost gives you that popsicle stained effect after you eat a popsicles its really a great look for summer."
But even great makeup plus heat and humidity produce pimples. Dr. Sapna Westly says exfoliate! Wash with a product containing salicylic acid.
Dr. Westly says, "Salicylic acid is a great ingredient to look for in the summer because it actually penetrates the oil glands its uncloggs black and white heads and it can reduce the bacteria thats responsible for acne."
You can scrub your whole body with it, but afterwards moisturize with a lightweight oil- free lotion.
Dr. Westly says don't let the sumerm time fool you, "People think of dry itching skin to really be a winter time issue but in fact from the sun, dry heat, chlorine, salt water its actually soemthign we see a lot of in the summer as well."
The biggest summer beauty snafu? Ditch the blade! Ban razor bumps and burns with this: A depilatory. It removes hair chemically.
This is Rebekah's favorite tip, "I really love using depilatories this time of year because they reduce the risk of irritation. You know those pesky little red bumps we tend to get, we all want to have smooth, flawless skin when we're wearing shorts and a short, little mini skirts. And this is a really easy way to get that.."
Easy? Well -- it'll take some effort. But it works!! I'm Brenda Flanagan, The 10 O'Clock News.
