The Baby Planner
July, 08 2008
Having your first baby is hard enough. There are choices, concerns, fears and of course, the relentless fatigue of pregnancy. You feel like you are planning a visit by a head of state.
Everyone is giving you advice.
Add your full-time job to this mix. And maybe your family and in-laws are too far away to help. Sounds like you could use a personal Baby Planner.
Enter Tara Shagawat of Sparta, and her business partner Kate Windram of Hamburg. Career women, now stay-at-home moms, they formed their BabySmartz Concierge Service () as a service for those busy, exhausted expectant moms.
“Our goal is to do the legwork, and to hold the hands of the parents,” says Tara. These ladies— both parents of young children-- will cull through the hundreds of baby product offerings, selecting the right crib, diapers, bottles, clothing, stroller, to match your lifestyle, budget and taste.
They’ll help you set up your registry. And create a theme for your nursery, work out the room’s layout, and in the last weeks before delivery, they’ll do a final walk-through just to be sure everything is in order.
The BabySmartz service continues after baby arrives, with everything from diapering and bathing lessons, to returning gifts, arrange referrals for sitters, and linking new parents with support groups.
“Multiples (twins, triplets) are always a big struggle,” Tara told us. Besides the daunting task of preparing for the arrival of more than one infant, the service helps match up moms of multiples—creating a built-in network of friendship and help.
If you are expecting, and it all feels a bit overwhelming, consider a Baby Planner. Let them sweat the details, while you welcome your bundle of joy.
