Back to College Fashion!

August 18, 2008

So you’ve got your laptop, schedule, and textbooks. But did you remember to get a layered necklace or a leather jacket?

It’s back to campus again, and time to update your wardrobe with this fall’s essential items. So if you have to sit in that 8 a.m. lecture — you might as well look good doing it!

Prima Clothing in Montclair knows it’s all about the volume! Layers of ruffling can be seen on almost all the tops for going out after class. They recommend pairing an oversized or “boyfriend” sweater with a pair of skinny jeans you may already own to create the illusion of volume.

Best thing about oversized sweaters? They’re super easy. Simply  throw one on after rolling out of bed and you’ll look stylish strolling to class.  They also have tons of clothes for lounging around the dorm that are made with organic cotton. They’re soft to the touch.

You may be a broke college student on a budget. Bella Dawn in Verona says you still can create the must-have look of layered necklaces. Lots of chains and detailing can pull together your outfit by using what you already have in your jewelry box. You can easily do it yourself by clasping bracelets onto necklaces and stacking them on top of each other.  A great handbag that’s oversized (like your sweater) will carry all your books and carry you into stylish circles.

If you’re on you’re way down the Shore for the last time before school starts, stop in Rok + Lola in Red Bank. On the racks you will see this season’s hottest item on the runways — leather jackets.  You’ll need it once the weather starts to get cooler, and with so many choices of colors and lengths you should be able to find the right one for you.

One trend the three stores agree is not going away this season is skinny jeans!  If you have a pair or two already, make sure you put them in your suitcase to take back to school.  Watch out for new rises on skinny jeans, the higher the rise the better!

By following these tips, you’ll definitely get an A in style.
