Rosie’s Food Bytes

October 10, 2007

Forget about traveling to Germany for Octoberfest! This week our NJ My Way Food Editor Rosalie Saferstein is celebrating everything about beer in NJ.

Take A Tour

Learn about the art and science of brewing wheat beer with a free tour and samples (21 and over) at Highpoint Brewing Company, Butler (www.ramsteinbeer.com). From March through December tours are conducted on the second Saturday of each month from 2 to 4 PM. Beer and brewery collectibles are also available for sale in their gift shop/tasting room. Call 973-838-7400 for a reservation.

Take A Class

Take a “Beer & Cheese Pairings” class taught by Carol Berman, journalist and founder of “Class in a Glass/The Traveling

Sommelier”(www.classinaglasswine.com) which will be held at Classic Thyme, Westfield. 7:30 to 9:30 PM; $59. For reservations call 908-232-5445.

Take A Ride…

… to Atlantic City’s only brewery, the Tun Tavern, (www.tuntavern.com) patrons can try a variety of handcrafted beers from the Tun Light, a golden ale, to a robust stout called Leather-Neck. Purchase the “sampler” of five 4-ounce pours ($6) or quench your thirst with a 64 ounce "growler" ($16; refill $8).

Two-For-Brew

“Two-For-Tuesday” featuring two pints for the price of one is offered in the taproom of J J Bitting Brewing Company, Woodbridge (www.njbrewpubs.com). Brewery tours on request.

Matching Brew

Choose a microbrew, perhaps the deep red Octoberfest, to match the seasonal American food at Trap Rock Restaurant & Brewery, Berkeley Heights (www.traprockrestaurant.net). The Brewers Room and Garden Room are available for private parties.

Save The Date: October 26

Attend a “Rogue Brewery Beer Dinner” at The Frog and The Peach, New Brunswick (www.frogandpeach.com). 7 PM; $80 plus tax and gratuity. For reservations call 732-846-3216.
