Weekend Picks: Turkey, Tree Lighting, and Sales
November 21, 2007
Thursday: have your fill of turkey, put up with nutty relatives, and take a few minutes to meditate.
Friday through Sunday: give thanks it’s all over—and go shopping.
You may want to contemplate a river crossing this weekend as one of the area’s top hush-hush sample sales puts all manner of designer bags (Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Chloe) out for sale. Check out www.samplesaleproductions.com to signup for the newsletter and get details.
On this side of the bridge, the less-than-two-month-old uber hip Barney’s Co-Op at Riverside Square in Hackensack will put you in the mood for receiving… and giving.
Some of our favorite downtowns and kids’ venues kick off their holiday seasons this weekend.

On Saturday, Bordentown lights its tree at Crosswicks and Farns¬worth, 5 p.m (www.downtownbordentown.com); Avalon does it at the 21st Street Circle, also 5 p.m. (www.avalonbeach.com). And all three days this weekend there’s a Christmas Festival on the Morristown Green www.morristown-nj.org. If you hang out until 8 p.m., maybe you’ll want to hear José Feliciano (www.josefeliciano.com) perform his holiday classic “Feliz Navidad.” The concert is at the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts (www.mayoarts.org ).
Looking for kid-friendly activity? . Santa visits Viking Village in Barnegat Light (www.barnlight.com) Saturday at 1 p.m; Saturday, too, the Camden Children’s Garden celebrates its Holiday Festival of Lights (www.camdenchildrensgarden.com) 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and for older kids, Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour is at the Meadowlands’ newly named Izod Center with 11 shows through Sunday, $15–$80 (www.ticketmaster.com/venue/69).
Grownups, meanwhile, can go on the Holiday Wine Trail Weekend, as 23 of the state’s wineries open their doors noon-5 p.m. to celebrate the 2007 harvest with entertainment, food and (of course) wine. Check www.newjerseywines.com.
Prepare for the festivities by joining a special yoga class on Thursday morning given by our friends at Yoga Montclair. (www.yogamandalimontclair.com).
We’re off the rest of the week. Look for NJMyWay again on Monday. And have a happy, healthy Thanksgiving!
