Weekend Picks: On The Rocks
August 23, 2007
The last weekend before Labor Day. Summer is almost over. But we still found plenty of stuff for you—North, South and of course down the Shore.
Red Bank takes to the sidewalks in the final “StreetLife” weekend of the season. Musicians will be performing throughout downtown while you get to shop in the hip, happening shops. It’s Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m. (732) 842-4244 and www.redbankrivercenter.org.
Further south in the Parkway, in Tuckerton, check out the Annual Boat Parade of Lights and Seafood Festival. Boaters dress up their vessels at the end of South Green Street and continue down Tuckerton Creek to the Seaport. Watch from the Seaport Boardwalks as you enjoy an evening seafood festival. Boats gather at 6 p.m. Saturday. www.tuckertonseaport.org.
Way in deepest South Jersey it’s the 33d annual Market Street Day in the city of Salem. There will be music, arts and crafts vendors and food. Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. www.marketstreetday.com
Still in South Jersey, in Mount Holly Friday night, High Street Grill (www.highstreetgrill.net) is doing a four-course dinner paired with craft beers from Stone Brewing Co. The emphasis is on fresh summer ingredients and a sense of southern California style. Dinner served at 7 p.m., $50. Reservations at (609) 265-9199.
Heading up north to Morris County, you can work off the dinner at the Triple Treat Strenuous Hike Saturday morning at 10, at Pyramid Mountain. Hikers will see the local “rock” stars, literally--the weird geological formations include Tripod Rock, a 160-ton boulder balanced atop three smaller rocks.
