The Dog Park
September 5, 2007
Here’s a nice enclave where you can take off the leash and Fido can fan out with a few friends.
The Rocky Top Dog Park in South Brunswick is like a doggy day camp—a sprawling, shady park with a swimming pond. It features several different enclosures depending on the size and temperament of your pooch.
Owner Gretchen Zimmer saw the need for a membership-based park, because not all dogs fit into public doggie play spaces. You can schedule your pup with other pups, find a first-rate, fenced off space for your testy Akita, or let your Lab run with the pack and take a dip in the pond. There are even special “socials” for small dogs.
Bring your lunch, and a baggie of biscuits for your best friend. There are some benches to sit and watch, and you’ll find plenty of fellow dog owners to share training, feeding and fun suggestions.
Rocky Top is so popular that dog owners drive from all over to spend a few hours here. We videotaped some of the action so you can get a better idea of what the place is like.
Best of all, when you get home, Rover is wiped out. He won’t be chewing on your shoes, because he’s spent his energy working out with his other best friends. Who knows? You might even pick up a few playdates of your own.
