Matt Alvarez joined My9 in 2012 as a general assignment reporter after freelancing for sister-station WNYW/Fox 5. Previously, Alvarez reported for WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio and KJCT-TV in Grand Junction, Colorado.
At Fox 5, Alvarez covered a wide range of stories including an investigation that revealed what security experts called a national security flaw at Newark Liberty Airport. This sparked a federal investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and resulted in proposed recommendations for better security at all entrance points outside the airport.
Alvarez earned a degree in communications from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, PA. With roots in New York and New Jersey, Alvarez currently resides in the Tri-state area.
