TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Legislation that would bar anyone under 18 from using
indoor tanning beds is going before a New Jersey Senate
panel.
The Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee will take up the
measure on Monday. The Assembly approved the bill last month by a 58-7 vote.
The state now bars anyone under 14 from using tanning
beds. And written parental consent is needed for those 14 to 17.
The topic has seen renewed attention since a New Jersey woman was accused
earlier this year of taking her young daughter into the booth with her. The
woman, Patricia Krentcil, has denied any wrongdoing.
California and Vermont are the only states that have outright bans against
tanning for anyone under 18.
