TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Temperatures around New Jersey continue to climb.
As of 2 p.m. Thursday, the thermometer has reached 94 degrees in Trenton and 97 in Newark.
Forecasters say the heat index, which includes temperature combined with humidity, makes it feel more like 99 in Newark.
Authorities have recovered the bodies of two missing swimmers along different parts of the Jersey shore.
A body was recovered Thursday morning in the surf off Asbury Park, and a second body was pulled from the water in Seaside Park in the afternoon.
Officials suspect both got caught in rip currents while seeking relief from the heat Wednesday.
American Idol hopefuls got a bit of a break Thursday morning, when they were allowed inside Newark's Prudential Center instead of lining up in the heat.
