BRICK, N.J. (AP) — Six children were treated at a hospital for minor injuries after the school bus they were riding in was struck head-on by a car.
Brick police tell the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/MXf5OV) that the bus was stopped at a red light when the crash occurred around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. They say the car, driven by 43-year-old Craig VanBaulen, hit the bus while making a right turn.
Authorities believe VanBaulen "suffered a medical episode" while driving. He was taken to the hospital with head and stomach injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Twenty-one children, ranging in age from 4 to 11, and three adults — all from a Sayreville gymnastics school — were on the bus. They were on a field trip to a Brick site when the crash occurred.
