
PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly woman died in a house fire in Paterson that left her husband, two grandchildren and three firefighters injured.
The woman's body was found in the home on Trenton Avenue where nine people lived.
Her husband remains at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center with burns to the back of his neck.
Their grandchildren were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx in critical condition, suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fire Chief Michael Postorino tells The Record newspaper one firefighter sustained second-degree burns and two others suffered steam burns through their protective clothing while rescuing people.
The cause is under investigation.
