NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Police say a 7-year-old girl has been struck and killed by a car while crossing a Newark street.

The Essex County Prosecutor's office says Jamyah Harris of Newark was hit by a car Monday evening on Central Avenue. The major road cuts across New Jersey's largest city.

Police say the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was located in the area by Newark police.

No charges have been filed in the ongoing investigation.

Police have not released more information, but are asking for the public's help.
