PATERSON, N.J.
(AP) — The New Jersey Supreme Court has temporarily halted the return a
child who has been living with her Turkish father in Clifton, to her
mother in Turkey.
A state appellate court had upheld a lower court
ruling that found the child had been illegally taken by her father in
2008 when she was 5, and ordered the girl returned to her mother.
The Record reports http://bit.ly/NgSaP6
that the high court issued the stay Friday as the child was being
brought to JFK International Airport to board a flight to Turkey.
An
attorney for the mother tells the newspaper that the state Supreme
Court will consider next week whether to keep the stay in place while
judges decide whether to hear the father's appeal of the lower court
ruling.
