COLTS NECK, N.J. (AP) — Regulators have launched an
investigation into a water main break that left 22 Monmouth County towns without
service.
The Board of Public Utilities is trying to determine whether New Jersey
American Water should have made repairs to a 40-year-old wooden bridge under
which ran three major pipes to its Swimming River plant.
The company has said the bridge was damaged last summer during Tropical Storm
Irene. But it says two evaluations done shortly after the storm showed the
section was within manufacturing standards.
The collapse on June 29 led to boil water advisories for 285,000
customers.
The BPU has told its investigator to submit his findings by Nov.
15.
