WOOLWICH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in southern New Jersey are investigating a homemade bomb that exploded in the mailbox of a local official.

Republican freeholder Larry Wallace tells the Philadelphia Inquirer
(http://bit.ly/P3UFR0) he discovered the destroyed mailbox early
Thursday near his home in Woolwich Township, Gloucester County.
The 50-year-old Wallace said the bomb was in a soda bottle.
It isn't known what time the bomb detonated.
Wallace said his two teenage daughters were home at the time and frequently go outside to pick up the mail.
Police and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office are investigating.
