TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie is headed to
the Jersey shore for his first day back at work after a week's vacation.
Christie will make an afternoon stop in Asbury Park to promote tourism and
talk about the importance of maintaining clean beaches.
Christie will then get ready to head to Tampa, Fla., where he'll give the
keynote address at the Republican National Convention a week from Tuesday.
The governor spent part of last week working on the speech.
The first-term governor has won praise for making public workers pay more for
their benefits and making it harder for teachers to get and keep tenure.
However, the state's unemployment rate is at a 35-year high and tax
collections have not been meeting the administration's
expectations.
