WOODBURY, N.J. (AP) — A defense lawyer says a
15-year-old New Jersey girl charged with setting her family home ablaze and
trying to kill its occupants will be detained while she undergoes a mental
health evaluation.
Lawyer Richard Josselson spoke after a juvenile detention hearing Tuesday in
Gloucester County. He says the girl is a good student who has never been in
trouble before. He describes her as "very distraught (and) very upset about what
happened."
Relatives at the courthouse say the girl had spent the past school year with
her father in Pennsauken before returning last week to her mother and
stepfather's Clayton home. That's where the fire erupted early Saturday.
Six people were injured, including the girl. Her mother has been released
from a burn center.
