MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) — The lawyer for a former New
Jersey couple who each lost a leg when their motorcycle was struck by a teenager
who was driving and texting says his clients have settled their lawsuit against
the driver for $500,000.
Stephen Weinstein, who represents David and Linda Kubert, tells the Daily
Record (http://dailyre.co/NeVcnz) that the settlement amount equals the maximum
payment that Kyle Best's insurance would cover.
David Kubert had his left leg torn off above the knee in the accident, while
his wife eventually had her left leg amputated. The couple now live in Florida,
but Weinstein says they are struggling financially.
Weinstein says the couple still plans to appeal a judge's ruling that Best's
girlfriend — who sent him the text message — can't be held liable for the
crash.
