LEONIA, N.J.
(AP) — State police say three people were seriously injured when their
car and a tractor-trailer collided on the New Jersey Turnpike.
The
car was northbound in the express lanes in Leonia when traffic forced
it to slow down around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. But the tractor-trailer
driver, traveling behind the car, apparently failed to slow down in time
and struck the vehicle.
The car eventually became pinned against a
concrete barrier and was then dragged for about a half mile before it
and the truck struck another vehicle. The car then became stuck under
the tractor-trailer.
One person in the car was ejected, while two
others were trapped inside for more than two hours. Two of the three
were hospitalized in critical condition, while the third was in stable
condition.
