NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Two men who shot a police officer during a violent three-month crime spree in New Jersey are going to federal prison for nearly 200 years.

A judge sentenced 48-year-old Nelson Otero to more than 174 years in prison and 48-year-old Maxcime Cagan of Floral Park, N.Y., to more than 172 years behind bars on Monday.

They were convicted of robbing seven stores between March 2010 and May 2010.

Prosecutors presented evidence to show the men robbed convenience stores, gas stations and liquor stores in Bergen, Burlington, Mercer, Middlesex, Passaic and Union counties. During a robbery in Wayne, Police Officer Brian Worell was shot in the head but survived. He testified at the trial.
