HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania prosecutors are asking a judge for a
hearing to determine if Jerry Sandusky should be designated as a sexually
violent predator.
Sexually violent predators are subject to intense reporting requirements upon
release. The designation is expected to have little effect on Sandusky, since he
stands never to be released. The former Penn State assistant football coach
awaits sentencing after being convicted in June of 45 counts of child sexual
abuse.
The attorney general's office on Wednesday filed a
document announcing that it wants the classification for Sandusky and asking for
the hearing.
Chief Deputy Attorney General Frank Fina says prosecutors will rely on the
testimony of an official with the state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.
Sandusky defense lawyer Joe Amendola says he'll meet with Sandusky to
determine if they should fight it.
