More than 180 arrested in OWS anniversary protests

Occupy Wall Street protesters gathered in Lower Manhattan Monday to mark the movement's first anniversary.
Police arrested more than 180 people, mostly on disorderly conduct charges, according to the NYPD. Many were busted after sitting on the sidewalk and four people in wheelchairs were arrested after they blocked a busy street.
Small groups chanted loudly and beat drums while clogging traffic around the Financial District.
Earlier in the day, several hundred protesters in the grass-roots movement gathered near the New York Stock Exchange at Broad Street and Exchange Place to celebrate the OWS anniversary, marking the day they began camping out in Zuccotti Park.
Monday's protest was expected to include demonstrations at Liberty Plaza, the Staten Island Ferry terminal and South Street Seaport, as well as in cities around the country.
A march on Saturday, which drew about 200 anti-capitalists, engulfed the park in preparation for the big event. Police made 25 arrests during and after that the march to the park that was the original base of the movement.
Organizers claimed that groups in more than 30 cities around the world would mark the one year anniversary.
