PHILADELPHIA -
The Philadelphia Police Department's Highway Patrol Motorcycle Drill Team rumbled into the hero thrill show at the Wells Fargo Center.
For the first time in a decade it was without the man who trained most of them, Officer Brian Lorenzo.
He was killed in July by a man charged DUI.
"It's really hard for us to be here," explained Lorenzo's wife. "Because we're used to being on the other side watching Brian doing this."
Jets flew overhead in missing man formation in honor of the police and firemen killed this year in the line of duty.
A bell tolled for Lt. Robert Neary and firefighter Daniel Sweeney, who died in April fighting a Kensington warehouse fire.
There were also prayers for deceased Philadelphia Police officers Moses Walker and Marc Brady.
The Hero Thrill Show has raised $3 million in scholarship money since 2001.
That's helped send at least 12 children of deceased fire and police officers to college.
This year the organizers are hoping to raise $400,000 dollars.
Lynsay Fox wiped away a tear after finding out her young children will benefit from some of the money raised.
A hit-and-run driver shot and killed her husband, Plymouth Township Policeman Brad Fox.
Kimberly Pawloski was also pregnant when her husband officer John Pawloski was shot and killed four years ago.
She shared how the scholarship money gives her peace of mind.
"It takes stress off family the to be able to send kids to school and get a great education," she said.
While fans applauded the Drill Team's stunts, a banner of Officer Brian Lorenzo performing a trick on his bike was unveiled on the side of Wells Fargo Center.
Linda Lorenzo shed a tear thinking about her deceased husband who was her high school sweetheart and should have been riding with his Drill Team.
"I miss him! I miss him and I love him. That's all you can say."
