Fire Chief Finds Dog Burned To Death In Chester County

Posted: Updated:
WEST BRANDYWINE TWP., Pa. -

Wagontown Fire Chief Todd Ziegler thought he saw a small brush fire along Route 82 when he and his team were driving back to the firehouse from a benefit Friday night.

"When we got out, we started to investigate," he said. "Things didn't look right."

What he thought was a brush fire turned out to be a caged dog set on fire.

Ziegler called West Brandywine Police and the Chester County SPCA to investigate.

The body of the dog was taken to the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square for a necropsy, where investigators hope to learn more regarding the circumstances of the dog's death.

It is not clear what breed of dog it was.

This is not the first case of animal cruelty of this kind to take place in the area.  In June a Yorkie was found burned in Coatesville.

Last year another dog was killed and dumped on railroad tracks, also in Coatesville.

The Chester County SPCA is asking anyone with information on this latest crime to give them a call at 610.692.6113 ext 213.

Tips can be reported anonymously.

An armed deli robbery is caught on camera. Two brazen gunmen held up the store owner with the man's kids right nearby. It's scary enough having armed gunmen storm your business.
