NJ man sentenced for fatal drunk driving crash

Posted: Updated:

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A northern New Jersey man who was driving drunk when he crashed into another vehicle — killing one woman and injuring two others — has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Roger Gallego of Paterson must serve 85 percent of the sentence imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole. He also must serve five years of supervised release once he's freed, and his driver's license will be suspended for 10 years upon his release from prison.

Gallego had pleaded guilty to death by auto and vehicular homicide charges stemming from the January 2011 crash that killed 22-year-old Tiffany Robinson. Prosecutors say Gallego ran a stop sign before hitting the car Robinson was riding in.

The crash occurred less than a mile from Robinson's home in Paterson.
