NJ Transit bus driver charged in death

Posted: Updated:

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have charged a veteran New Jersey Transit bus driver with vehicular homicide in the death of a passenger.

Authorities say Catherine Collier struck and killed 49-year-old Joseph Currier in a crosswalk after she ran a red light in Passaic on Sept. 27.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes says a passenger told authorities Collier accelerated as the traffic light turned from yellow to red.

Collier has worked for NJ Transit for 25 years. She's been suspended with pay.

It's not known whether the 65-year-old has hired a lawyer.
