NJ Transit terror text program yields tips

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Transit's text against terror program has generated 307 messages since it began in June 2011.

Authorities say 71 of the messages referred to homeland security issues. Most of those were investigated and found not to be cause for concern.

However, NJ Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo tells The Home News Tribune of East Brunswick (http://mycj.co/TbaYvP ) in rare instances, some were probed by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The police chief would not elaborate.

NJ Transit passengers are encouraged to text NJTPD or 65873 about suspicious activity on trains or buses.
