EVESHAM, N.J. (AP) — Bloodhounds, helicopters and all-terrain vehicles have failed to find a pedestrian that police in New Jersey believe was struck by an elderly driver.
An Evesham police officer stopped the 81-year-old motorist on Tuesday night and noticed damage to the passenger side of the vehicle that was consistent with striking a person.
Police say the driver recalled striking something, but he was unsure what it was or where it happened.
Tests showed hairs on the vehicle were consistent with coming from a human.
Sgt. Joseph Friel tells The Burlington County Times (http://bit.ly/hm6MGJ ) it's "such a needle in the haystack." Investigators believe the accident could have happened within an hour's drive of the Cherry Hill Mall.
Friel hopes someone comes forward with information about a missing person.
