Poll: Obama, Menendez on top in blue Jersey

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A new poll shows New Jersey is still a blue state after the first presidential debate.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday shows President Barack Obama maintaining an 8-point lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney. And U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez tops GOP challenger Joe Kyrillos (kih-RIHL'-lohsez) by 18 points.

Mickey Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, says Obama's lead didn't budge from September while Menendez's has widened.

The poll found 16 percent of U.S. Senate race voters say they still could change their minds before Election Day, double the number of presidential voters who say they may rethink their choice.

The telephone survey of 1,319 likely voters was conducted from Oct. 10-14 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
