ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Transportation officials are reopening a west bound
lane of Interstate 195 in Mercer County that's been shuttered since a fatal
accident occurred there earlier this month.
The lane is part of an I-195 overpass along the New Jersey Turnpike. It was closed after a dump truck traveling on
the turnpike crashed and burned directly under the overpass on Oct. 3.
Transportation officials say the lane was closed "out of an abundance of
caution." But sophisticated load testing of the beams that support the overpass
has revealed that the structure is safe for all vehicles on all lanes.
DOT crews will remove the barriers that have blocked traffic from the lane
once the evening commute has concluded Tuesday. Officials say the lane will be
reopened well before tomorrow's morning rush.
