Home for Rutgers presidents gets $90K makeover

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — The 84-year-old house that Rutgers University's new president calls home has undergone a nearly $90,000 makeover.

Receipts obtained by The Star-Ledger of Newark (http://bit.ly/X7PeGx ) show the remodeling included $36,145 for rewiring, $5,759 for new lighting, $5,206 for new blinds, $2,805 for Ceasarstone quartz bathroom countertops, $1,200 for a carpet runner and $398 for new window flower boxes.

University facilities and capital planning vice president Antonio Calcado tells the newspaper the only time the school gets to renovate the home is when Rutgers is between presidents.

The recent cost compares to nearly $600,000 that Rutgers spent in 2002 to fix up the house before Richard McCormick moved in with his family.

New Rutgers President Robert Barchi moved in with his wife and their dog in late August.
