Luring reports lead to Halloween curfew

Posted: Updated:

NEW MILFORD, N.J. (AP) — Two New Jersey towns have imposed a Halloween curfew in the wake of recent reports of attempted child lurings.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent after 8 p.m. on Oct. 30 and Halloween in New Milford and Dumont.

A 12-year-old in Bergenfield on Monday became the 15th child in Bergen County since mid-September to claim he was accosted by a man in a pickup.

Police say the recent spike in attempted luring reports may simply be misunderstandings fueled by media frenzy.

The Record newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/Vo4uLH ) Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox told residents the number has exceeded anything he's seen in 35 years as a police officer.

Lyndhurst police determined two boys made up a luring story earlier this month.
