ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) — Just about every New Jersey Democrat who's been mentioned as a potential candidate in next year's gubernatorial election will be in Asbury Park for a rally for President Obama.
Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal says Saturday's 11 a.m. event is attracting a who's who of possible gubernatorial challengers. Gopal says Democrats recognize the importance of doing well in Monmouth and Ocean counties to have a chance statewide.
The traditionally Republican central Jersey counties helped Chris Christie upset Gov. Jon Corzine three years ago.
Confirmed speakers include Newark Mayor Cory Booker, former Gov. Dick Codey, Senate President Steve Sweeney, Congressman Frank Pallone, Sen. Barbara Buono and Democratic State Committee Chairman John Wisniewski, all said to be considering gubernatorial runs.
Christie has not said whether he'll seek re-election.
