NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a former Hoboken municipal employee has admitted breaking into Mayor Dawn Zimmer's email account and forwarding some of the messages to other city officials.
Patrick Ricciardi pleaded guilty Wednesday to a complaint charging him with accessing a computer without authorization, intercepting wire and electronic communications and disclosing the intercepted communications.
The 46-year-old Hoboken resident faces up to 15 years in prison when he's sentenced July 1. A veteran city employee, he served as chief information technology officer for the mayor's office.
Prosecutors say Ricciardi created an archive file where he re-routed emails that had arrived in Zimmer's account. He forwarded some of the emails to other current and former city officials.
